08.26.10 (posted 08.31.10) - i work in one of the oldest parts of the city, lower manhattan. in fact at the southernmost point of the island.
there are remnants everywhere of the city's history. from the cobble stone streets, the fraunces tavern -- the site that played a prominent role in the revolution, to trinity churchyard, among other things.
after 6 pm this place becomes a ghost town... literally. it can definitely be creepy with the tall buildings and quiet, dark streets. it always amazes me in a city of 8 million people that there are parts of it with hardly anyone there at a given time.
